His grandfather's exposure to the renowned watercolour artist John Varley ignited this interest during his formative years. Being a relative of the Varley family further fuelled his creativity and love for painting.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBen's passion for art flourished during his time in secondary school. Participating in friendly drawing contests with his peers only fuelled his enthusiasm for creating. However, it was a portrait of his father that he painted as part of a mock GCSE that truly stood out and garnered praise from the entire class.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDespite pursuing art at both college and university, Ben's technique remains primarily self-taught. During his education, he was given ample space to explore and nurture his own concepts, with minimal formal guidance on techniques. This allowed him the liberty to experiment and hone his skills in oil painting, despite occasional mixed responses from his mentors. His fearless approach to colour and attention to detail soon caught the attention of fellow students, leading to the development of the techniques that are now synonymous with his unique style.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhen creating, Ben embraces a spontaneous and organic approach. While he typically begins with a simple composition, he allows the painting to naturally take shape as he works. Oftentimes, he selects colours in the moment and lets his brush dictate the forms. This technique involves two main stages: laying down foundational hues, followed by adding intricate elements in a second layer. Upon finishing a piece, Ben steps back for a day or two to assess it from a new perspective, making any necessary final tweaks.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRenowned for his diversity, Ben's art spans from figures to scenery, executed in both graphite and oil mediums. He is drawn to vivid, daring hues that lend his pieces a contemporary and distinct appearance. An ardent aficionado of science fiction movies and visual effects, Ben previously dreamt of becoming a concept designer for films and video games. Though he briefly experimented with digital painting, he ultimately returned to oils, lured by their opulent texture and profound intricacies. Presently, Ben finds much of his creativity from the breath-taking landscapes surrounding his parents' residences in the Herefordshire countryside and on the Isle of Harris, continuously fuelling his
